The first half hour is curious but gritty. Builds backstory, but is not the best use of time. It doesn’t help that our hero is running around on one leg either.
It gets more interesting in the second half hour as the crew of hijackers get to work, and everyone gets a lot more serious.
In the 40th minute there’s a lot of Cantonese without built-in English subtitles, so if you don’t speak Cantonese, make sure you have subtitles prepared, else you’ll miss out on some key dialogue in the middle of some good action. Even Amazon Prime customers have been complaining since 2018 that the Cantonese sections in this movie have no subtitles on their platform.
It gets a bit gritty in the middle, when the main man enters the building and it’s all burning down and he’s trying to rescue his family while they’re separated by the collapsing burning structures.
The ending is a rip off from Enter The Dragon, just upgraded with digital screens instead of analogue mirrors.
In the end, I’m doing to rate this movie Bang Average because although it has a lot wrong with it, it also has a lot right with it, so it kind of balances out.
