Action Hero MoviesI rate this movie Below Average — a level it kicks off with and pretty much maintains until then end.
It’s got some decent action and concept, but is quite slow and simplistic, and its main star is no different: a slow, simplistic action hero. But in 1985 there wasn’t nearly so much choice what to watch, and nothing so technologically enhanced as is the norm these days — it was mostly plain acting like in this movie, so it was probably a joy to see this movie back in its day. It was probably a talking point. But now, it’s OK but far from wows.
At times it seems the directors think loud music compensates for lack of action.
The supporting cast is OK, as is Arnie, but at times it seems there isn’t much script for them to work with. Like a lazy old made-for-TV show, relying too heavily on cast charisma.
The odd funny line delivered with a straight face, is appreciated, given how stiff and slow the movie and Arnie are generally.
Although the last few minutes were good, it was incredibly boringly one dimensional with nothing but shooting — not even dialog — for a good quarter hour prior to the final minutes. If not for the nice touch at the very end, I would have ended up rating this movie a level lower, but in the end I think Below Average is justified.
